“See the Need, Help us Feed” Community Outreach

In the fall of 2008, Lighthouse Ministries launched our food box distribution program. This program serves the poor and homeless families in low income areas of Polk and Hillsborough County. Churches receive food boxes or gift cards from Lighthouse Ministries, which which are then distributed to local families in need. This gives the churches the opportunity to pray and serve these families, and it allows Lighthouse the opportunity to help families they wouldn’t be able to meet otherwise.

We are seeing families being drained because of the economic hurt that they have suffered with this economy; it is so difficult for people to make ends meet. Families especially hit hard are those that may have had some serious blow to their income status such as a loss of job, a medical issue, an addiction issue or some ongoing behavioral problem in the family that brings the whole family down.

We are encouraged as our church partners share with us that we are reaching families that have made a commitment to Christ and avoided becoming homeless. Most of the churches are reporting that they are experiencing spiritual and physical growth by this partnership.

Dave RenfroeCrestview Baptist Church

David Renfroe has been the pastor of Crestview Baptist for 9 years. This church is “ministry focused,” with a highlight on their bus ministry, which reaches out to their community. Members of Crestview had already been volunteering their services at Lighthouse before the opportunity arose to provide a means of transporting and discipling the women and children of the Jay & Eloise Troxel Family Center.
